-History-
Ruby A. Neeson was born September 27, 1951, in Atlanta, Ga.
Neeson was the eldest of five siblings. After highschool, Neeson went on to attend Morris Brown College, where she earned a degree in English.
Following college Neeson worked as a Community Center Director for the City of Atlanta Parks & Recreation Department before becoming a freelance writer for the Atlanta Inquirer. Neeson was also a dedicated schoolteacher.
In 1999, Neeson was diagnosed with diabetes. Often faced with the reality of diabetes discrimination and the high cost of medication and supplies, living with the illness proved to be challenging for Neeson and her family.
The degenerative disease became a battle. After suffering a stroke in January of 2006, Neeson passed away on July 4, 2006.
Neeson’s only child, a daughter, Mutima Jackson-Anderson, established Ruby A. Neeson Diabetes Awareness Foundation, Inc. with a passion to fight the many life-threatening illnesses associated with diabetes and to advocate for those, affected with the illness.
